Gunther Holtorf has travelled more than 500,000 miles, exploring the world in his Mercedes G-Wagen
In 1989, Gunther Holtorf and his wife, Christine, set out on an 18-month trip around Africa in their Mercedes G-Wagen. 23 years later, Holtorf is still travelling the world – and his trusted Merc now has more than 500,000 miles on the clock.
The car – which he calls ‘Otto’ – has never suffered a serious break down, and after such a long time on the road, Holtorf says he knows the car so well, that he can fix any issues almost immediately.
Australia, South America, deepest Africa and the base of Mount Everest are just a selection of places that Holtorf and his G-Wagen have seen along the way.
Take a look at this slide show, with commentary from Holtorf and photographer David Lemke as they relive parts of this incredible journey.
